Designs

When planning an event, corporate or a simple home party, focusing on the reason for the event will help you with the design and theme. For corporate events, start with your corporate colours which will reinforce your message to your clients and guests. When possible incorporate a theme - this will really help pull all aspects of your event together. Themes need not be elaborate. If you are having a company anniversary say, in the summer...your theme can be "Over the Years" with a summer time picnic menu, seasonal casual flowers, vintage company photos in simple frames on each table, plank tables with long bench seating. This look will be casual, fun and feature your company beautifully. For a simple home party the same holds true. Start with the reason, birthday - anniversary - or house warming. For a new house warming party, deck the tables with new drop canvas drop cloths, empty paint cans with bright daisies, a barbeque menu and voila a simple inexpensive theme!

When planning what you will need in flowers for your event or party, plan on having a centerpiece for each table where guests will be seated. An entry focus piece will greet all your guests. If you are having a buffet, a large focal piece or smaller accessory arrangements on the food tables will continue your colour story giving your event a professional look. Don't forget small arrangements and bud vases in the bathrooms which will let your guests know that nothing was overlooked when showing your themthat you value their patronage. Last, make sure all corporate event guests leave with a token of your thanks for attending your event. We suggest something that reflects who you are and which will linger on the desks or home office to remind them of you. Of course standard gives of clothing or pens are always great, but you can think out of the box by giving them small plants in a container featuring your colours or logo. Plants energize any work place and will constantly remind your guest about you. Another unique gift is beautifully designed gift card towards a future purchase at your company. What a great way to create customer loyalty. At Flowers & Sense we specialize in helping you create a theme with all the creative details to make your event or party truly unique.

Decorating

When decorating your event, from the beginning you must take into account, location, time of day, your corporate or personal style, and theme. If you are having a casual event then all decorating should also be casual and bright. Keep in mind to make all decorations and accessories in proportion to the venue. Small compact centerpieces will be lost in a venue with high ceilings and bright lighting. The use of flags, banners or balloons can really help fill the void and are a great vehicle to feature your corporate name and logo. If you are having an evening event, focus lighting on the tables will showcase elegant centerpieces. The use of darker colours and rich tones will give any event a rich, prosperous look. Corporate logo and name can be beautifully showcased on a large screen using a simple Power Point presentation. The use of seasonal flowers is always suggested, keeping budgets low and ensuring the fullest, freshest overall look.

Remember that colour will have the most powerful effect on the overall look of your event. The proper choice and implementation of colour is key to pulling your theme together. The designers at Flowers & Sense can guide you through all these choices and help showcase your company to it's fullest!

Creating a Budget

Many people confide to us that the development of a flower budget is one of the biggest challenges in the  planning process. Most  have purchased clothes for special events, shoes, meals, jewelry and travel yet they have little experience with buying flowers, especially on a large scale. The overall price of flowers has numerous components but the major elements are:

  • The varieties of flowers selected. The more common and in season, the lower the price. The more exotic, fragile and/or limited the availability, the higher the price.
  • The quantities of flowers needed overall. The larger your wedding party (Bridesmaids, Parents, Grandparents, Aunts, Uncles, etc…) and/or guests attending (for table centerpieces) the more flowers needed.
  • The amount of specific flowers (by variety and quantity) the Bride requires. For example, you will often be able to garner a lower price by selecting a general category of flower – i.e. dark red roses – instead of requiring your florist to guarantee ‘Black Magic’ roses. The effect will be very similar, literally imperceptible in the photographs.
  • The amount of time and skill the various designs take to create. Simple designs require less time while more elaborate compositions or those with exquisite details will take significantly longer to craft.

For level of service and convenience, Flowers & Sense offers services such as delivery, set-up of event décor, transportation of flowers area to the event area, pick-up of rental equipment and event coordination. Each level of service is quoted separately.
We have found that for the majority of events, the cost of INSERT TEXT HERE . For centerpieces costs are a little more difficult to determine. A good rule of thumb is the centerpiece should be close to the cost of one meal from the venue per table. Of course if you have a simple budget we will endeavour to provide you with great ideas to make your day truly special.
